With over 73% of users preferring short-form video and an 81% viewer completion rate, Reels and TikToks have become more than a trend. Speaking of trends, you might be wondering if you have to dance, point or lip-sync to gain exposure. While it can certainly seem that way, rest assured that it’s not require (although following a trend or two won’t hurt either).
Here are 5 things to keep in mind when creating short-form video for your brand:
Keep the message clear and straightforward. If the message can’t be communicated properly within 60-seconds, opt to post a teaser that promotes the longer clip or skip it all together. Remember, context is EVERYTHING. (9 times out of 10, content creators get dragged online because of a clip that failed to communicate the full context of what was being taught)
Don’t be afraid to be unpolished. Research shows that viral content is oftentimes raw, uncut footage that captures an authentic moment.
Stay true to your niche. I know it’s tempting to jump on a trending dance or challenge, but trust me on this. If the trend doesn’t align with your niche, your time will be wasted. Nothing stinks worse than getting 10x the views and engagement on a piece of content that isn’t true to your brand. Ultimately, the followers that come as a result of the video may leave when you fail to produce similar content and while that’s unfortunate, it’s okay.
Give value. The content that does well provides clarity, insight or inspiration on a particular topic. When your followers feel like they can learn from you, they’ll become fans and ambassadors who will share your content with others.
